LPG used as an automotive fuel is commonly called "Autogas". This fuel provides one of the easiest options for motorists to adopt an alternative fuel to petrol or gasoline. The clean burning properties reduce green house gases and other noxious emissions.

Most spark ignition engines can be converted to operate on Autogas. Diesel engines cannot be directly converted to Autogas (spark ignition systems must be retrofitted to these engines).
